“No Name” & “Withdrawal” – Two Poems Of Prof. Shaheena Asif From Her Book “The Ordinary Woman”

                                                   NO NAME

Daughter

Sister

Wife

She has no name

She has no face

She is a woman

                                               WITHDRAWAL

Laughter

Innocence

Trusting loving heart

Lost in the

Eddies of life

Frightened

I hide from

This world

As Long As – A Poem By Prof. Shaheena Asif From Her Book “The Ordinary Woman”

"The Poetess"

                                                   “As Long As”

What I wear

You don’t care

Talking to me

But looking

At the car key

Tired too busy

Business dinners

Late nights

Where you go

I need not know

Too long to be mine

The black hair

On your shoulder shines

The lipstick shade

Though light

On your collar so bright

On your body

A strange perfume for days

Lingers on in many ways

I shall ignore this

And much more

As long as

You are kind to the children

And pretend to like me

On Hysterectomy – A Poem By Prof. Shaheena Asif From Her Book “The Ordinary Woman”

                                               “ON HYSTERECTOMY”

Like dried branches

Like earth hard and cracked

Like grass turned brown

Lifeless but alive

Scared for life

Pretending smiling

Exhausted insecure

Secretly terrified

Dear womb

The surgeons knife

Cured the disease

But

Left me dying inside

Love – A Poem By Prof. Shaheena Asif From Her Book “The Ordinary Woman”

                                              LOVE ?

Who will love me?

When I am –

Beautiful and dutiful

Joking and laughing

Healthy and wealthy

Kind and helpful

Just any body and everybody

Who will love me?

When I am –

Sad and bad

Demanding and commanding

Lazy and crazy

Fat and ugly

Unwell and poor

Just no body and nobody

Pakistan – A 75 Years Old Poem

The following poem written by my late father, Syed Shahab Uddin Ahmad (1919-2000) former Lecturer of Chemistry, Aligarh Muslim University,  Principal, Charmical Degree College Rangpur (East Pakistan), Academic Registrar, Rajshahi University (East Pakistan), G.M. Lyallpur Chemicals & Fertilizers Limited (PIDC & NFC) Jaranwala & General Manager, National Fertilizers Corporation of Pakistan,  was originally published in the DAWN in early 40’s. Later on, this poem was also published by Syed Sharif Uddin Peerzada,  in a book titled ” UNPARDONABLE CRIME OF JINNAH ” in October 1942. One of the rarest copies of this book is with me.

P A K I S T A N

They say  ’tis  “vivisection”

Of the Indian nation

In an unknown fashion.

It is an idler’s dream,

A confused scream

For a selfish scheme.

‘Impracticable’

‘Unimaginable’,

Is how they babble.

And when meet their seers,

With crocodile tears

They expose their fears.

But these are morbid libels

From sworn but feigned infidels,

Wearing varied labels.

Preposterous, pretentious,

Hypocritical notions.

Disguised resolutions.

Phantastic desire.

To be India’s sire.

Is what they aspire.

In the name of democracy,

With numerical supremacy,

Is their game of diplomacy.

But we can’t be daunted

By sarcasms taunted.

Or vain fears haunted.

We want India’s deliverance,

To save it from decadence.

And without a vengeance.

A home for us secure.

Also for them quite sure.

Without a basely lure.

On justice, fairplay, equity

Behold Pakistan’s quality

Won’t it stand till eternity?

In Memory of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah – Founder and Father of Pakistan

The following poem  of my late father Syed Shahab Uddin Ahmad, titled “Jinnah”, was published by Dawn in November 1941 and again on 22 December, 2010.
Brief introduction of my late father:
Syed Shahab Uddin Ahmad (25 December, 1919- 13 May, 2000) was a former Lecturer of Chemistry, Aligarh Muslim University, Principal, Charmical Degree College Rangpur (East Pakistan), Academic Registrar, Rajshahi University (East Pakistan), G.M. Lyallpur Chemicals & Fertilizers Limited (PIDC & NFC) Jaranwala & General Manager (Commercial) National Fertilizers Corporation of Pakistan.

Jinnah

Thou prophet of a brighter dawn,
A glitt’ring jewel in the nation’s crown,
A beacon for the forlorn ship:
Thus Jinnah’s name shall win renown.

Our din that perished in the wilderness
Lo! Now in Whitehall is resounding loud;
Thou spokesman of the Muslim world,
Dispeller of the gath’ring cloud.

Espouse our cause and lead us to the goal
Under your flag to Pakistan,
And surely will we march with you
To make for us a home in Hindustan.

Long live thou Saviour bold!
To teach us freedom, love and amity:
Long live the glory of thy name
To give us faith, discipline, unity.
