In Memory of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah – Founder and Father of Pakistan

The following poem  of my late father Syed Shahab Uddin Ahmad, titled “Jinnah”, was published by Dawn in November 1941 and again on 22 December, 2010.
Brief introduction of my late father:
Syed Shahab Uddin Ahmad (25 December, 1919- 13 May, 2000) was a former Lecturer of Chemistry, Aligarh Muslim University, Principal, Charmical Degree College Rangpur (East Pakistan), Academic Registrar, Rajshahi University (East Pakistan), G.M. Lyallpur Chemicals & Fertilizers Limited (PIDC & NFC) Jaranwala & General Manager (Commercial) National Fertilizers Corporation of Pakistan.

Jinnah

Thou prophet of a brighter dawn,
A glitt’ring jewel in the nation’s crown,
A beacon for the forlorn ship:
Thus Jinnah’s name shall win renown.

Our din that perished in the wilderness
Lo! Now in Whitehall is resounding loud;
Thou spokesman of the Muslim world,
Dispeller of the gath’ring cloud.

Espouse our cause and lead us to the goal
Under your flag to Pakistan,
And surely will we march with you
To make for us a home in Hindustan.

Long live thou Saviour bold!
To teach us freedom, love and amity:
Long live the glory of thy name
To give us faith, discipline, unity.

  • A very orignal and sincerely written tribute to a gentleman who really shocked the world by getting Pakistan from British and Hindu dominated Congress. The poet, Syed Shahabuddin Ahmad, portrayed those deep seated sentiments of muslim youth who were dreaming a better dawn to come in their lives so that they could fullfill their ambitions…But we are sorry and ashamed for what we have done with this piece of land.

  • Laila Changezi:

    Dear Nayyar Uddin Sahib,

Thanks for sharing this poem with us. Currently, Pakistani nationals could learn a lot about true leadership because Quaid-e Azam raised his voice against oppression and gave life long sacriface to make the collective dream, Pakistan come true. Khuda unhein Jannat-ul firdous naseeb karein, ameen. He was an inspirational leader unlike current generations of selffish feudal rulers…..

  • Nabila sukhera:

    Thanks for sharing

  • Tanviruddin:

Profound thanks for sharing this poem today. How befitting! December 25 is the birthday of poet and the Quaid, both.

Quaid-e-Azam never created Pakistan for the benefit of a select class of incompetent and corrupt politicians, landlords and generals. Neither he made it for fanatic, misguided and so-called jehadis; killers who have killed thousands innocent Pakistanis, in their efforts to spread terrorism and anarchy in Pakistan.

If we wish to live in a tolerant, just and peaceful society, we will have to stand up against corruption, killings of innocent people and the criminal nexus of ruling elite. We must stand up to make Pakistan fulfilling the dreams of its founder.

  • -A wonderful homage to the great man.
I wish we can have at least some of his qualities.

  • Atif Ali:

i think in recent time we should reopen the ideas and views of Mr M.Ali Jinnah to solve the critical problems of PAKISTAN.i m the great follower of the Quaid’s ideas and views and their brilliance.

  • Khalid Masood:

An inspiring and nice poem…. Well done sir..

  • Shoaib Mir:

Jinnah, the Quaid e Azam, was indeed richly deserving of this tribute – then and now.

  • Ijaz Chaudhry:
