Loud Thinking

In recognition of the supreme sacrifice made by our military, police and civilian martyrs, I respectfully submit the following proposals for the consideration of our leaders.They are meant to honour the families of the martyrs and to assure them that the nation remembers.

1. Income tax exemption: Full (100 percent) exemption from income tax, for life, on the income of the martyr’s parents, wife and children.
2. Property and excise relief: Exemption from property tax and excise duty on the family residence and on motor vehicles owned by the immediate family.
3. National flag: The immediate family to be permitted to fly the national flag at their residence and on their vehicles, as a mark of respect.
4. Free education: Free education for sons and daughters at any institution in Pakistan. Where a child attends a private institution, the government should bear the cost.
5. Dedicated cell: A separate section in the Cabinet Division or the Interior Ministry, headed by a Grade 21 officer, to maintain records and facilitate the above measures.

Many people avoid paying income tax altogether. Recognition of this kind for the families of those who gave their lives for the country would be a small gesture in comparison. It would also raise the morale of serving personnel, who would know that their families will be looked after.

I submit these proposals with the utmost respect.
