Revenue generation: New taxes introduced for big houses

Government will impose a tax of Rs250,000 per kanal to a maximum of Rs2 million on houses up to eight kanals with a covered area of more than 6,000 square feet in Lahore district.

The Punjab government has proposed imposition of taxes on big houses and a 100% increase in annual token tax on imported and locally assembled vehicles of 1,300cc or above engine capacity for fiscal year 2014-15.

It has also proposed annual tax on imported vehicles having engine capacity of 1,590cc and above.

An increase of one percentage point in stamp duty on immoveable property has been suggested and more services have been brought in the tax net.

According to the Finance Bill 2014 tabled in the Punjab Assembly, the government will impose a tax of Rs250,000 per kanal to a maximum of Rs2 million on houses up to eight kanals with a covered area of more than 6,000 square feet in Lahore district including Lahore and Walton Cantonment boards.

It will levy Rs300,000 per kanal to a maximum of Rs3.6 million on eight kanals or above with covered area of more than 12,000 square feet.

In rating areas of divisional headquarters, districts and cantonments in the districts of divisional headquarters, tax will be Rs200,000 per kanal subject to a maximum of Rs1.6 million on houses with covered area of more than 6,000 square feet.

For covered area of more than 12,000 square feet, tax will be Rs250,000 per kanal subject to a maximum of Rs3 million on eight-kanal or above houses.

In the remaining rating areas and cantonments, the proposed tax will be Rs150,000 per kanal subject to a maximum of Rs1.2 million on houses with covered area of more than 6,000 square feet and Rs200,000 per kanal subject to a maximum of Rs2.4 million on eight-kanal or above houses with covered area of more than 12,000 square feet.

New Delhi: Responding to a letter written to him by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said he is looking forward to working closely with him and his government.

Here’s the full text of the letter:

Dear Mian Sahib,

I thank you for your letter of 2, June, 2014 and the positive sentiments that you have expressed about your visit to India last month.

I was particularly delighted and honoured by your participation in the ceremony for the swearing in of the new government. Your presence and that of other leaders from our region not only added a special sheen to the event, but also a celebration of the strength of democracy in our region and a reflection of our collective hopes and shared destinies.

I was also encouraged by our discussions on our bilateral relations and the convergence in our views, especially on the fact that a relationship between India and Pakistan defined by peace, friendship and cooperation would unleash enormous opportunities for our youth, secure a more prosperous future for our people and accelerate progress across our region. I look forward therefore to working closely with you and your Government in an atmosphere free from confrontation and violence in order to chart a new course in our bilateral relations.

I also take this opportunity to condemn in the strongest terms the terrorists attack in Karachi and convey my deepest condolences for the loss of innocent lives in this senseless and barbaric attack.

Keep Tabs on Upstart Rivals

All companies need to keep tabs on upstart competitors to refine their understanding of the market, to consider new product directions, and to out-maneuver potential rivals. But tracking young companies can be tough, as some information may not be public. Here are three areas to focus on:
Who are their investors? Some investors only do angel investing, some prefer early to mid-stage companies, and others only bet on late-stage stars. Investor profiles can indicate where a company is in its cycle.
Where are their employees located? Do they have a team overseas? Is the workforce operating across many locations virtually? Data about where their people are can help you assess a competitor’s maturity, speed, agility, and burn.
What are the leadership team’s strengths? Find out where those leaders went to school, where they’ve worked, and whether the CEO has experience starting companies. If the team has worked together before, that can signify maturity.

An urgent proposal to the Prime Minister..!

Dear Mr. Prime Minister,

AoA.

A Watt saved is a Watt produced and the cost of installing 1MW powerhouse is approximately PKR 1 billion. We can save a minimum of 1000 MW per day, if countrywide all markets and offices are very strictly closed at 6 PM, along-with all TV and Cable TV is also shut down at 9 PM.

Extraordinary problems needs extraordinary solutions.

The above proposal will also give peaceful load shedding free nights to the teeming millions during the long hot and humid summer season, who can’t afford UPS, generators or solar power systems.

Hope your government will swiftly act to implement (even if issuance of an ordinance is required) the above proposals in the larger public interest, without fearing any backlash of the vested interests.
