“The problem, often not discovered until late in life, is that when you look for things in life like love, meaning, motivation, it implies they are sitting behind a tree or under a rock. The most successful people in life recognize, that in life they create their own love, they manufacture their own meaning, they generate their own motivation. For me, I am driven by two main philosophies, know more today about the world than I knew yesterday. And lessen the suffering of others. You’d be surprised how far that gets you. ”

Pursue Your Own Growth Opportunities
Many managers find that their current roles afford little opportunity to explore or develop. If you’re ambitious, but your current position offers few growth opportunities, look beyond your main business area. Sign up for a project or initiative that cuts across your organization’s divisions, hierarchical levels, and functional specialties. The big-picture perspective, fresh skills, and new connections that such projects can bring are well worth your time. If no suitable project is available, look for roles outside your organization that allow you to practice new skills and raise your profile. Consider teaching an adult education class, volunteering to speak at a conference, contributing to a blog, or attending professional gatherings to meet with people from different companies. These activities will build your skills and reputation, increasing your chances of joining strategic initiatives inside your organization.

What Europe thinks of India
The Brussels-based European Commission Standing Committee on Global Foreign Direct Investments last week listed the top 20 destinations the EU 27 will target for the next five years. India does not figure in the list*.
Stocks of European Union direct investments to the rest of the world amounted to €5.6 trillion at the end of 2012 and the EU continues to have a fixation with China.
As for India, senior EU officials noted: “India is probably getting there, but, not quite arrived!”
*An editorial in the highly circulated German national newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine’:*
“India has never had it so bad. Stealing in government has never been this brazen. Government officials are now so audacious in their corrupt practices that they do not give a damn about who is watching.”
“Supreme Court directives are routinely flouted. Crime rates are up and security of life including womens’ safety, which is the first responsibility of every government, is at its lowest ebb. India must then be more than qualified to be called a failed state.”
*In the Manager magazine*, one of Germany’s leading glossy business journals, an article said: “Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, has a natural inclination to be a follower, not a leader. ”
The article states: “India is a country where merit and integrity have no value and the country continues to sink beneath the suffocating weight of mediocrity and unrestrained, rampant greed.
The majority of citizens feel excluded and disrespected at all levels of their daily lives.
The youth of the country that make majority of the populace clearly feel helpless and many are pushed to take to misdemeanor and crime.”
*Der Spiegel wrote* in an edit:
“While the main functions of the parliament are to make laws and hold the executive accountable through oversight, Indian lawmakers make very few laws, pass incompetent motions and engage in rampant disruption of the proceedings.”
*The German business newspaper Handelsblatt wrote*:
“For India, it seems clear that the hope of becoming one of the best twenty economies in the world will remain a daydream. Corruption is the bane of the society. The Government knows this and the crusade against corruption is being handled with kid gloves.”

‘Players question timing of team announcement’
Several players appearing in the competition have lamented the decision by the national selection committee for announcing the T20 squad for a match against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka before the completion of the local event.
“What’s the point of staging a T20 tournament when selectors announce the T20 squad before it has even concluded,” one of the players told The Express Tribune.
“They could have let the tournament end and see who the top performers were, because it could have given others some outside chance. It isn’t the right move to announce teams like this when an important tournament is going on.”

A changed revenue-distribution model for the ICC was one of several issues discussed between Cricket Australia chairman Wally Edwards and BCCI president N Srinivasan in Singapore last week. Edwards is also head of the ICC governance committee and his meeting with Srinivasan happened to be part of his regular rounds of talks with ICC executive board members. The BCCI is understood to be in favour of a sharing of ICC revenue that better reflects the size of its financial contribution to the game, rather than an equal split among all Full Member nations.
The Singapore discussions were said to have taken place over a middle ground between current practice and BCCI’s informal stand on the subject.
Srinivasan was in Singapore for an IPL franchise-owners workshop. Along with being BCCI president and therefore member of the IPL governing council, he is also owner of the Chennai Super Kings IPL franchise.
Neither CA nor the BCCI made any formal statement about their stand on the subject of ICC revenue distribution until Tuesday. At the sidelines of the ICC awards announcement function in Mumbai, BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel said the issue was the “legitimate right” of the BCCI and was still under discussion. “This legitimate right issue has been put up before the Full Members of ICC. It is nothing but a just and fair right that we are asking for. It is not any muscle flexing.” Patel told PTI. Srinivasan had put up the issue for the “first time in the history of the BCCI as a Full Member of the ICC. He has worked out very good details and very good options,” Patel said.
“President Srinivasan, since last year, was looking into the financial details of ICC. He has made a private study about what could be the contribution of the BCCI into the revenue stream of ICC. On the basis of that, some formulae have been discussed among us. His own acumen as a businessman has also helped us.” On the home front, the BCCI hands out 70% of its annual revenue to 27 of its affiliates in equal proportions.
Cricket Australia’s own views on the subjects are not yet known in the public domain. It has however changed its own financial-revenue distribution in 2012 as part of a raft of governance changes including the move towards a fully independent board of directors. From each state receiving an equal share, revenue is now distributed on a basis of need, as decided by CA’s board.
The discussion between Edwards and Srinivasan also covered matters including the vast disparity between dividends received by lower ranked Full Member countries and the top Associate nations like Ireland and Afghanistan.

After Usman Khan’s fantastic fast bowling performance (3 overs 2 maidens 4 wickets for 9 runs) in the final T20 match, the PCB must consider the wonder fast bowler from FATA, Mr. Usman Khan Shinwari, for his inclusion in the national team, selected for home series against Srilanka to be played in the UAE.
